How eBay is Leveling the AI Playing Field for Small Businesses
Our tools make selling on eBay faster and easier than ever.
When Lisa Driskill posts a listing to her eBay store, MuseumsRock, she often uses AI tools to make the process faster and easier — and to make her wares jump out to prospective buyers.
Lisa relies on the AI photo enhancement tool to seamlessly post pictures of the Bible, boots, and blue jeans she sells.
“It makes my life so much easier,” Lisa said. “You don’t have to worry about having the perfect background. You can put it on the floor, on a table, even in your car.” Lisa added that with it, she can post listings from the car while her husband drives during their regular “treasure hunting” missions.
eBay’s AI solutions for sellers, such as the photo enhancement tool, are part of our broader commitment to helping American small businesses grow and thrive.
“Small businesses often do not have access to the same technology, teams, or resources as larger companies. Avritti Khandurie Mittal, Vice President of eBay Services Product, said. “At eBay, our focus is on putting practical AI tools directly in the hands of sellers so they can save time, reach more buyers, and grow their businesses.”
Running a small business often means juggling sourcing, listing, pricing, and customer service all at once. eBay's AI tools, such as generative AI listing descriptions, photo enhancements, and pricing insights, are designed to ease that load.
As of 2025, more than 10 million sellers have adopted eBay’s generative AI features, helping create over 300 million listings. Mittal described time savings as one of the most valuable benefits sellers see from AI.
“If there's one thing we know about small businesses and entrepreneurs, it is that they don't have time,” she said.
eBay’s magical listing tool, for example, creates a high-quality post based on a single photo of an item, making listing an easier, more efficient exercise. Data shows that nearly 50% of sellers using the latest generation of the tool list more than one item per hour, creating larger quantities of listings than sellers using the prior version of the tool.
eBay also provides AI tools that simplify the marketing process. Small businesses use our social caption generator tool to quickly create shareable social media captions tailored to their listings and our generative AI video tool to transform listing photos into short-form videos designed for platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube — no editing skills required.
About 70% of eBay’s sales come from small businesses, many run by one or two people. Unlike traditional retailers, eBay does not sell its own products or compete with the sellers on its platform. That structure is important in informing eBay’s approach to AI. Mittal described the company’s focus as practical and seller-first, particularly for small businesses without access to the tools and resources available to larger companies.
"With AI, eBay is helping level the playing field for small businesses - giving sellers the tools to compete, grow, and thrive,” Mittal said.
